Joe The Plumber Takes A Crack At Government Work.

From USA Today:

Remember Joe the Plumber? He's Joe the Politician now.
The guy who became an overnight sensation of the 2008 presidential campaign ascended to political office Tuesday, winning election as a Republican committeeman for northwest Ohio's Lucas County.
"Joe," whose real name is Samuel Wurzelbacher, was was caught on tape asking pointed questions about Barack Obama's tax policy when the then-Democratic nominee was canvassing his Ohio neighborhood -- and promptly got adopted as a political mascot by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Obama's opponent.
Apparently, the close encounter with politics whetted Wurzelbacher's appetite for more.
He has written a book and hit the political speaking circuit, including "Tea Party" rally in Cincinnati last month.
The Associated Press reports that Wurzelbacher won a spot on the Lucas County Republican committee by a 38-23 vote in his suburban Toledo precinct. That makes him one of nearly 400 committee members who set the agenda and pick a chairman for the local party.

Well, it looks like Lucas County will now be safe from all that elite, Obama-style socialism we keep hearing about. After all, a barely-literate, unlicensed plumber is on the job, fitting squarely in the sweet spot for GOP candidates nationwide.

John McCain To Sarah Palin: Love Me Tender.

Everybody knows John McCain made a huge McStake in '08 when he picked a McIdiot for his running mate. Now the cranky contrarian is being challenged for his Senate seat by Tea Party touchhole J.D. Hayworth, so he's reached out to that same McStake to help save his ancient ass.
So out trotted Sarah Palin, dressed like Elvis in '68, and she prattled on about something or other, John McCain hugged her in his vaguely creepy way, and the rabid righties ate it all up.
Meanwhile, RNC plans to exhume the bones of Ronald Reagan in time for the 2012 presidential campaign are busily being etched on the Mayan calendar, just in time for the end of the world.

Going Rogue?

Here's a summary of the whiny passage that follows from Sarah Palin's dime-store diary:
Oh, poor me! I wanted--really wanted!--to only talk with the droolers from the hard-right echo machine, but those meanie McCainiacs made me talk to Katie Couric! And she's, like, a card-carrying agent of the socialist left-wing, death panel media or something!
Going Rogue: An American Life
by Sarah Palin
Chapter Four; Section 8, pages 255-257

By the third week in September, a “Free Sarah” campaign was under way and the press at large was growing increasingly critical of the McCain camp’s decision to keep me, my family and friends back home, and my governor’s staff all bottled up. Meanwhile, the question of which news outlet would land the first interview was a big deal, as it always is with a major party candidate.
From the beginning, Nicolle [Wallace] pushed for Katie Couric and the CBS Evening News. The campaign’s general strategy involved coming out with a network anchor, someone they felt had treated John well on the trail thus far. My suggestion was that we be consistent with that strategy and start talking to outlets like FOX and the Wall Street Journal. I really didn’t have a say in which press I was going to talk to, but for some reason Nicolle seemed compelled to get me on the Katie bandwagon.
“Katie really likes you,” she said to me one day. “she’s a working mom and admires you as a working mom. She has teenage daughter like you. She just relates to you,” Nicolle said. “believe me, I know her very well. I’ve worked with her.” Nicolle had left her gig at CBS just a few months earlier to hook up with the McCain campaign. I had to trust her experience, as she had dealt with national politics more than I had. But something always struck me as peculiar about the way she recalled her days in the White House, when she was speaking on behalf of President George W. Bush. She didn't have much to say that was positive about her former boss or the job in general. Whenever I wanted to give a shout-out to the White House’s homeland security efforts after 9/11, we were told we couldn’t do it. I didn’t know if that was Nicolle’s call.
Nicolle went on to explain that Katie really needed a career boost. “She just has such low self-esteem,” Nicolle said. She added that Katie was going through a tough time. “She just feels she can’t trust anybody.”
I was thinking, And this has to do with John McCain’s campaign how?
Nicolle said. “She wants you to like her.”
Hearing all that, I almost started to feel sorry for her. Katie had tried to make a bold move from lively morning gal to serious anchor, but the new assignment wasn’t going very well.
“You know what? We’ll schedule a segment with her,” Nicolle said. “If it doesn’t go well, if there’s no chemistry, we won’t do any others.”
Meanwhile, the media blackout continued. It got so bad that a couple of times I had a friend in Anchorage track down phone numbers for me, and then I snuck in calls to folks like Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and someone I thought was Larry Kudlow but turned out to be Neil Cavuto’s producer. I had a friend call Bill O’Reilly after I was inundated with supporters in Alaska asking why the campaign was “ignoring” his one-air requests for a McCain campaign interview. I had another friend scrambling to find Mark Levin’s number. Aboard the campaign plane I was within twenty-five feet of reporters for hours on end. Headquarters’ strategy was that I should not go to the back of the aircraft and talk to the press. At first this was subtle, but as the campaign wore on, Tracey or Tucker would call headquarters to request permission, and someone in DC would respond, “No! Absolutely not- block her if she tries to go back.”
Poor l'il Sarah. Why's everybody always pickin' on her?

Far Out, Man.

Watch CBS Videos Online

See, Glenn Beck can say anything he wants on CBS or NBC or ABC without pissing off his zombie followers because loony Fox-bots refuse to watch those news outlets ("mainstream media," don't ya know...)
But, um, John McCain is a "weird progressive?"
Planet Beck certainly is a far-out, freaky place, eh?

All In The (GOP) Family.

Here we go again...

Yesterday, I posted a link to Vanity Fair's piece on Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, including an update about William Kristol's unhappiness with Todd Purdam's article. As with everything surrounding the Alaskan Disaster, the aftermath has taken on a soap opera feel.
If you read this blog during the 2008 presidential campaign, you are familiar with the dozens of controversies lampooned here involving Palin, Kristol, McCain and the rest of the nitwits involved in that GOP debacle. With Palin, we get a never-ending bonus round; her thin-skinned responses to every slight--real or perceived--and her seeming inability to concentrate on the governance of her state or heed the many suggestions that she actually learn about the issues bring to mind the Tom Waits lyric: she's like a wrecking ball no longer connected to the chain.
Jonathan Martin at Politico has a piece up this morning that illuminates the behind-the-scenes machinations of operatives within the McCain camp during the campaign, and the backbiting that continues almost eight months later. And at the center of the storm?
Our l'il Sarah.
Here's Martin:

Kristol cited a passage in Purdum’s piece in which “some top aides” were said to worry about the Alaska governor’s “mental state” and the prospect that the Alaska governor may be suffering from post-partum depression following the birth of her son Trig. “In fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palin’s mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt,” Kristol wrote.
Asked about the accusation, Schmidt fired back in an e-mail: “I'm sure John McCain would be president today if only Bill Kristol had been in charge of the campaign.”
“After all, his management of [former Vice President] Dan Quayle’s public image as his chief of staff is still something that takes your breath away,” Schmidt continued. “His attack on me is categorically false.”

Kristol, of course, is the oft-criticized, oft-wrong, neocon editor of the right-wing Weekly Standard and a FOX News staple. He's also just about the smarmiest SOB on the planet.
It seems "The Wasilla Hillbillies" may be in for a longer run than their forebears from Beverly Hills. If you are a political junkie, you'll love this stuff. The whole Politico piece is here.
