If conservatives wish to separate themselves from the right-wing dead-enders many claim do not speak for them, and if they wish to be taken seriously and stop being viewed as insane, maybe this list from Karl Frisch of Media Matters would be a good place for them to start:

10) Focus on the Family founder James Dobson, for falsely claiming a hate-crimes bill that adds gay, lesbian, and transgender Americans to the list of protected groups would also protect those who commit incest, necrophilia, pedophilia, bestiality, and a host of other perversions.

9) Fox News' Sean Hannity, for hosting "Internet journalist" Andy Martin, who once called a judge a "crooked, slimy Jew, who has a history of lying and thieving common to members of his race."

8) Syndicated radio host Neal Boortz, for describing welfare recipients as "human parasitic garbage lining up to get their applications to loot."

7) Fox News conspiracy-theorist-in-chief Glenn Beck, for describing Obama's nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court as, "Hey, Hispanic chick lady! You're empathetic. ... You're in!"

6) MSNBC's resident cranky uncle, Pat Buchanan, for saying prior to Sotomayor's selection that he wanted Obama to pick a Supreme Court justice "who has real stature, impresses people" but thinking instead that Obama would pick "a minority, a woman and/or a Hispanic."

5) Syndicated radio host Jim Quinn, for repeatedly calling NOW the "National Organization of Whores."

4) Cincinnati-based radio host Bill Cunningham, for alleging that "Obama wants to gas the Jews."

3) Michael Savage (née Weiner), the third-highest-rated radio host in America, for saying "Obama hates" and "is raping America."

2) Fox News' irrepressible mega-star Bill O'Reilly, for repeatedly quacking that the legalization of gay marriage could lead to folks marrying ducks.

And No. 1, the conservative movement's de facto leader, Rush Limbaugh, for saying of Obama, "We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles ... because his father was black."

Conservatives, that'll get you started. Let us know when you need more names.

Caught On Tape: 15 Yammering Idiots Protest David Letterman.

In an earlier post, I gave the idiots protesting David Letterman's Palin jokes way too much credit.

50 protesters? Nope; 15...

From CNN:

A crowd of 15 protesters upset with the late night comic held signs and occasionally shouted as they stood across the street from Letterman's studio.

But they were often hidden from view by the more than 35 members of the media there to cover the protest, and out-shouted by a few very vocal counter-protesters.

New York Magazine videographer Jonah Green was one of those press members, and he captured a disturbing video of several of those protesters in hate-filled rants against the CBS "Late Show" host.

Among the more alarming lines of attack -- particularly given that the rally was held because Letterman supposedly made a joke about Sarah Palin's teenage daughter Willow -- was that Letterman's son Harry was born out of wedlock (he recently wed Regina Lasko after dating for over a decade).

"Should we talk about his son?" one protester asked Green. "I believe his son was born out of wedlock. I believe there's a term for that."

"Is someone making jokes about his child?" asked another. "Especially, you know, when he had a daughter out of wedlock himself" (he didn't; 5-year-old Harry is his only child).

"How dare he?" asked yet a third, the most offensive of all. "When he has a bastard son, and a slut for a wife" (Letterman's wife Lasko has kept a notoriously low profile)

It should be noted that Sarah Palin's teenage daughter Bristol gave birth to baby Tripp (out-of-wedlock) in December and broke up with the baby's father, Levi Johnston, in March:

Other conservative talking points thrown around at the rally included, "Close the borders!" and "I only watch Fox News," as well as the general sentiment that Jay Leno is a better host than Letterman.

An apology from David Letterman was good enough for Sarah Palin - but not for protesters who demanded the late night host's dismissal Tuesday at a Broadway demonstration.

"Fire Dave! Fire Dave!" the crowd of about 50 protesters chanted as Letterman fans filtered into the Ed Sullivan Theater for the show's taping.

The demonstration came hours after Palin accepted Letterman's Monday night apology for what he described as "a bad joke ... a joke that was beyond flawed."

The governor released a statement saying she accepted the mea culpa "on behalf of all young women, like my daughters, who hope men who 'joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve."

(Editor's note: did this evangelical media junkie really use the world, "evolve?" So she doesn't believe that Dave was "intelligently designed," after all.)

Letterman sparked the controversy with a crack about Palin's visit to Yankee Stadium last week. The one-time GOP vice-presidential candidate attended the game with her 14-year-old daughter, Willow.

Letterman - who initially said he was referring to 18-year-old Bristol Palin- said the teen "was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez" during the seventh inning.

Bristol Palin became a single mom in December when she delivered son Tripp.

And Sarah Palin became a national laughingstock in late August, when John McCain picked her as his running mate.

Teabaggers Have Tuesday Off, So Wingnuts Will Protest A TV Comic Instead.

A Web site called FireDavidLetterman.com is organizing a rally outside Letterman's show at the Ed Sullivantheater on Tuesday June 16 at 4:30 p.m.

And while Letterman has repeatedly reminded viewers his comments were jokes, the campaign's organizers seem dead serious about getting the late-night stalwart canned.

Sponsored by New York State Assemblyman Brian Kolb, along with an attorney and radio host John Ziegler, the site also provides contacts - including major advertisers and CBS bigwigs - to whom people can complain about what many felt was a tasteless and potentially harmful quip by the late night talk leader.

It gets weirder; New York magazine reminds us of the time Ziegler went on that dating show.)

"Firing Mr. Letterman would send a clear message that CBS will not tolerate any of its employees even an established media figure like Mr. Letterman making demeaning and degrading comments about women," Kolb, a Republican from the Western New York state district of Canandaigua, wrote in a letter to CBS chief Les Moonves.

The accompanying Facebook group and an ancillary one have about 1,800 members to date.

"One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game," Letterman said, "during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."

Letterman contends that the outcry over the comment was due at least in part to a misunderstanding.

He had intended the joke to be about Palin's oldest daughter, Bristol, 18, who did in fact become pregnant by her then-boyfriend Levi Johnston, when in fact the daughter attending the game was Willow, age 14.

The loudest response from no less than Palin herself, who went on the "Today" show Thursday morning to rant against the comedian.

Hey, Dave: stop apologizing! You are a comedian who made a joke that you say was in bad taste; Palin is a desperate politician from the tundra who'll do or say anything to stay in the news. Just shut up about it and she'll move on to her next manufactured outrage as quickly as you can say, "abstinence."

Knock (Up), Knock (Up); Who's There?

Easily-aggrieved Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and coattail-riding right-wing nitwit Michelle Malkin continue to manufacture righteous indignity over David Letterman's jokes the other night.

Sarah Palin says David Letterman owes an apology to young women across the country for his joke about her daughter.

The Alaska governor appeared on NBC's "Today" show Friday, continuing a feud with Letterman over his joke that Palin's daughter got "knocked up" by Alex Rodriguez during their recent trip to New York.

Palin says the late-night funnyman has contributed to a thread throughout culture that says it's acceptable and funny to talk about statutory rape.

Letterman has said his joke was about Palin's 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, who is a single mother. But it was her 14-year-old daughter, Willow, who'd been at the baseball game.

Palin said it took Letterman time to think of the "convenient excuse" that he was talking about Bristol instead of Willow.

And then there's Michelle Malkin. If it's ersatz outrage and a hyperventilating cultural patrol that you want, she's your gal:
