From RCP:
It doesn't make much sense to try to parse this Obama comment or that one, as some are doing. The announcement is coming shortly and we'll know when we all know. That said, here's a quick list of where each potential candidate stands.
Top Tier Joe Biden, Tim Kaine, Evan Bayh
Second Tier
Kathleen Sebelius,Claire McCaskill
Need-Some-Foreign-Policy-Muscle Tier Sam Nunn, Jack Reed
Need-A-Prayer Tier Hillary Clinton
Obviously the last two tiers shouldn't be seen as lower in terms of possibility, only that the choice of one would suggest that the Obama campaign felt it had to make that decision for various reasons. But, unless Obama pulls a complete surprise, his running mate is one of the above.
UPDATE: Should we take Sam Nunn's name off the list? The AP is reporting:
Former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn appears to have dropped from the running to be Barack Obama's vice presidential choice. The Georgia Democrat will be traveling out of the country until Monday, his spokeswoman said Thursday. Obama is scheduled to appear with his running mate in Springfield, Ill., on Saturday.
