17!
Your 2007-2008 NBA Champion BOSTON CELTICS!!!!!
It's an NBA-record 17th banner for the league's most storied franchise.
From the ball-boys to KG, to Ray-Ray, Rondo, Perk, and to Paul Pierce--who really IS "The Truth"--and to that awesome bench...
To Danny Ainge, Doc Rivers, Tom Thibodeau, and to the owners, too;
The Larry O'Brien Trophy is back, exactly where it belongs:
In CELTIC hands.
And don't forget those frenzied Celtic fans; that wasn't Staples Center, was it?
(To be fair, Dyan Cannon, Sly Stallone, and countless other "real" Laker fan's mouths were immobilized by multiple plastic surgeries long ago, so actual cheering is a medical impossibility. Pointing at themselves on the JumboTron remains a popular move, however.)
In 11 head-to-head Finals meetings with the arch-rival Lakers, the Celtics are now 9-2.
There was no way these Celtics were about to watch the Lakers' Phil Jackson surpass Boston's late, great Arnold "Red" Auerbach as the NBA's coaching leader, especially on their parquet floor. Both have 9, with Red running off 8 in a row from 1959 to 1966.
Jackson has 11 rings overall, including 2 as a player with the New York Knicks, but--as a coach--he still isn't ahead of Red.
During ABC's pre-game, Phil and Doc Rivers were shown addressing their teams. Lakers' assistant Kurt Rambis was seen yawning.
Maybe Rambis needed to be clotheslined by Kevin McHale on his way to the game.
(You know, a little eye-opener.)
I'll bet Red never yawned during his locker-room talks.
At various times, Red Auerbach was Celtic coach, GM, VP, and president.
"Red On Roundball" remains a huge TV memory from my sports-crazed youth.
Look up at those rafters. Red's measuring for #17 right now, and looking for a match...
Hey, Red: Have a cigar...
UBUNTU!!!
