Huffington Post is reporting that David Gregory will be the next moderator of "Meet the Press." Tom Brokaw will finish up his interim role on Sunday, with an exclusive Barack Obama sit-down.
Since the passing of Tim Russert in June, there's been intense speculation about who would get the job. NBC executives have kept the selection close to the vest, but some possibilities emerged.
Internally, the short list also included Chuck Todd, Andrea Mitchell and Chris Matthews (as a dark horse contender). Outside NBC, there's been talk of PBS's Gwen Ifill, CBS's Katie Couric, and CNN's John King.
Last week, the LA Times reported that an announcement could come by this Sunday.
An NBC spokesperson responded to Politico: "I don't know where they are getting this. We have nothing to announce."
