A Sobering Thought.

     The country is going broke.
The economy is imploding, jobs are disappearing, and we are fighting two wars (three, if one counts the overall "War on Terror", and four with the clearly unwinnable "War on Drugs".)
I've added a "War on Drugs" widget along the sidebar, which is nothing more than a tote board of stupidity and governmental budgetary waste. Check it out, and imagine the myriad possibilities for those state and federal dollars.
"The War on Drugs" is a ratholed money pit, and it's time to opt out.
Prohibition didn't work with alcohol, and it has never worked with drugs.
Those dollars are being wasted trying to stop people from getting wasted.
That's worked as well as teaching abstinence in an Alaskan homeschool.
Meanwhile, soccer and hockey Moms (and Dads) legally use their neighborhood dealer, er, doctor for the same effect.
We send helicopters to spray marijuana fields in foreign countries, yet we never seem to have the public money for any sort of social and/or chemical rehabilitation, drug education, or treatment here.
Our jails and prisons are clogged with low-level drug offenders, many of whom are there due to draconian marijuana laws.
The CrowBar Hotel is full of addicts, too, and they need medical help, not penal warehousing.
We've played Popeye Doyle for years; a touch of Hippocrates would seem nice.
It's high time--pun intended--to legalize marijuana in the United States, to be regulated and taxed like cigarettes and alcohol.
The moralists will scream; let them.
