From Vanity Fair:
One of the persistent memes in the Republican line of attack against Barack Obama is the notion that he is an elitist, whereas the G.O.P. represent real working Americans like Levi “F-in’ Redneck” Johnston.
It caught our attention, then, when First Lady Laura Bush and would-be First Lady Cindy McCain took the stage Tuesday night (at the RNC) wearing some rather fancy designer clothes. So we asked our fashion department to price out their outfits.
Laura Bush Oscar de la Renta suit: $2,500 Stuart Weitzman heels: $325 Pearl stud earrings: $600–$1,500 Total: Between $3,425 and $4,325
Cindy McCain Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000 Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500 Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000 Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000 Shoes, designer unknown: $600 Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100
Wow! No wonder McCain has so many houses: his wife has the price of a Scottsdale split-level hanging from her ears.
Her dress still looks like a peeling banana to me.

You are entering into some type of non-issue free fall. Stick with the issues, just as Obama has. You're stooping to a level that the Republicans know and know well. They have bigger stones and a better arm. Economy, economy, economy, other things seem to fix themselves if we have a healthy one. And while I'm at it, whenever a politician says "middle class", I get scared. I've been middle class for a long time and no matter what words or phrases are attached, it always works out that they are looking for more milk from their favorite cash cow,
A $300,000 outfit at a convention during a recession is an issue that deserves to be pointed out, in my middle-class eyes.
But you are right about one thing: the Republicans are expert at distraction; just witness their war on the media since Palin fell from the sky...
Should be a helluva 60 days...
Thx for visiting...
Well it shows me how out of touch they are with the middle class. How can either of the fine ladies ever identify with those of us who lie our bills out in front of us on payday to examine what gets paid this time around and what waits until the next two weeks? I'll bet they don't grocery shop and fix meals based upon what was on sale at the grocery store (do they actually fix their own meals?). They certainly don't walk in my cheap shoes or smell my daisies.......... And that's a problem for me.
