I worked for the media for nine years and I and I am ashamed to tell people that at this point in my life because of the lack of guts the media has displayed over the issue of Sarah Palin's daughter. When Lynne Spear's daughter Jaime was found to be pregnant and said that she was going to marry the father the media vilified her and even her book was put on hold. However, when saintly Sarah Palin announces that her 17-year-old is pregnant we treat her with kid gloves. Although, she is the governor of a state where 73 of every 1000 girls gets pregnant by the age of 19 and when you talk about non-white girls, the rates are even higher.
It is a travesty of the journalistic process that no one is willing to step-up to the plate and ask, "Where was Sarah Palin when her 17-year-old daughter was having sex?" "Would sex education in the State of Alaska have prevented her daughter from getting pregnant?" "Was the Governor too busy to teach her daughter about the use of a condom or do her pro-life values prevent such simple preventative measures and why?"
