"Talk TV": Change The Channel.

Loudmouths like Lou Dobbs, Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Pat Buchanan, and the vacuous Michelle Malkin are making a large part of their livings right now by attempting to stir up anti-immigrant feelings with a large dollop of B.S..

Much of what is screamed by these demagogues is false, so the facts often get lost in the din.

Cut and paste the following link for a real stab at "fair and balanced" information:

Illegal immigration is a major problem for the country but having the aforementioned meat heads linked to providing solutions is also a block to having liberals accept the fact that illegal immigration needs prevention.

And those who suffer most are immigrants who could easily qualify for legal immigration based on education and need for a politically safe haven. Unfortunately they sit and wait while quotas for legal immigration are cut because of the flood of illegal immigrants.

But the illegal immigrants are not to blame for wanting a better life and you have to question the sanity of anyone who doesn't want a better life. The problem lies with a body politic who won't do anything about for fear they may have share the wealth and thus promote a never ending stream of cheap exploitable labor.

Unfortunately, as long as xenophobes like Bill Riley and Co. are champions of ending illegal immigration, liberals can't get beyond the loathing to reach a common sense solution.

It's not so much a 'liberal" vs. "conservative" matter to me as it is a "Big Business" cheap labor exploitation issue on a macro level. Add to that the xenophobic "us vs. them" since 9/11---notice that's when the current anti-"illegal" hue and cry has reached its deafening screech--and the admittedly (historically) porous Southern border migration, and BAM! "Talk TV" and talk radio have their easy-target scapegoats.
Tom Tancredo actually advocated the deportation of "every" illegal immigrant. Lou Dobbs is right there with him.
It's a broken system, but it's not beyond solutions. I think we should embrace a pro-active drive at assisting citizenship, rather than a draconian approach of "throwing the f****** out!" effort. And I think it could be done; like everything else, with an honest appraisal, a recognition that we have a federal government to USE rather than to DEFUND, and the hope that at some point, the people we HIRE (elect) will DO their jobs rather than TALKING about somebody ELSE doing their jobs.
SOMEBODY wrote the legislation allowing what is basically indentured servitude; now REWRITE it, and embark on a program designed to assist in mass LEGALIZATION of the millions of people that are here because we ALL are the better for it.
