Former major league third baseman Graig Nettles, a key member of the World Series teams the Yankees fielded in the 1970s, has prostate cancer and will have surgery next month, the New York Post reported.

"I was diagnosed the day before Thanksgiving" Nettles said Friday, according to the Post. "They wanted to do it at the end of January but I wanted to come to [spring training]. They said that was OK because it's slow moving and there was no rush to do it."

He didn't want to miss spring training. A Yankee all the way.
